Status Report

Sitting...at my black chair in front of the computer.

Drinking...Sierra Mist. I would love to have more Diet Dr. Pepper but I have had my limit for the day and water just ain't doing the trick right now.

Noting...that I just ate lunch for the second time today. This might end up being a problem if the pattern continues.

Weighing...what to cook for dinner. Chris is out of town so we could totally go for Fruity Pebbles but we might have spaghetti since that is the kids favorite and not Dad's.

Tired...um. yeah. little bit.

Thinking...about high school math options. Ugh! I thought I had nailed this decision down with Saxon but the more I look into Teaching Textbooks the more I am wooed by their tutorials and massive amounts of instruction ... Cause I always like a little instruction when dealing with high school math. When I cannot pronounce it, I know I have waded out too deep.

Wondering...why I didn't realize that there was no dance class tonight for Emma ... Spring Break ... DUH!

Reading... A Sane Woman's Guide to Raising a Large Family by Mary Ostyn. I have visited Owlhaven, Mary's blog countless times and I was so excited to get her book. So far I have really enjoyed her simple and practical advice. I could definitely take lessons in the area of "letting loose".

Recently finished...Same Kind of Different as Me (not so recent - more like two months ago but finishing is not my strong suit)

Also wondering...Twilight? I cannot shake it, ya'll! It's everywhere I go and especially around my girls. And I just flat don't get it. I wish it would go away already and quit provoking my insatiable need for debate. Adults? Read what you will. But children? And churches promoting it? Sorry. I can't help but start to flip my wig a little bit.

Needing...well it seems I am still needing to sweeten up a little ;) I need to carve out a more deliberate quiet time and quit hoping it will drop into my lap about 1:37 p.m. each day complete with a cup of coffee and a napping baby. Maybe I need a dose of reality while I'm at it.

Not liking...maternity clothes these days. If I don't want to wear my clothes (or undergarments) below my belly when I am NOT pregnant then why on earth would I want to now? I like my big, round, white pregnant belly all nice and covered up thankyouverymuch.

Feeling silly...for not stopping for toilet paper. I hate to stop at the store. I put it off and put it off and then here we are. Robbin' one toilet for another and now forced to use one bathroom and we are teetering on the verge of using the old potty-training flushable wipes.

On that note...I'm off to get toilet paper. It's non-stop fun and excitement here, folks.

Lisa does these wonderful status reports and I can't pass up stealing borrowing a good idea ;)

Okay, I'm a little slow on the uptake. Just finding out you are expecting. HOORAY! Congratulations!

And I couldn't agree more about Twilight. Creepy if you ask me.

And another thing...

I like my maternity clothes to not fit like a leotard, thankyouverymuch. Can I have some extra fabric please???

That is all.

Carry on.

Teaching Textbooks, love them!! we used to be die hard Saxon, but love the TT now. Emma is in Pre-Calc and it has been great (in other words she is testing great).

Twilight? I rented it last weekend to see what all the hub-ub was about. Totally don't get it. Weak story, bad acting. Don't get it. I let Emma read it. I read a Christian review that made it seem OK. If I had it to do again, I would not. She is not too scarred and she has quit sharpening her teeth...so I think we are ok. ;o)

I've heard TT are excellent. I have loved Saxon for five years now. I really like the Dive CD-ROM that came with 5/4. Anyways, I'll be checking out TT at this summer's HS convention. I'll probably go for it for high school math. I have a few years to go before that, though. ;)

Twilight? There are several girls/young women at church who are heavily into it. They've read the books several times, went to the theater to see the movie together a dozen times in one weekend, and can't stop talking about it now that it's on video. My mother had never heard of it until recently, so she rented it. She readily admits that the acting and the story are subpar, yet she watches it every single day (she doesn't have a job). SO. All that to say that I think people have been hyp-mo-tized. I'll also go ahead and say that the young and unemployed are more susceptible than others. That may be a slight overgeneralization, but it's a fact...really. Scientific even.

I'm rambling. Can you tell it's been a while since I've had some decent adult conversation?

But seriously, I did read one review that highlights the Mormon (Meyer is Mormon) undertones/themes throughout the story. Very interesting.

Okay I'm thinking teaching textbooks for my 7th grader cause I've been looking into them as well and just think that is gonna be the better way to go to make sure he is getting what he needs...although so far Saxon has worked great for him. Not totally set on it yet.

Twilight well let's just say it is nuts around here too and I think that the enemy is ready to kill, steal, and devour our youth, our families...really anyone he can here in the possible end times so of course he is gonna use something that seems like a harmless little love story...written by a "good" person. What was it Bro. Danny used to always say?...Sin it will take you farther than you want to go and cost you more than you want to pay...or something like that...anyway he is sly!!!

Kleenex, napkins, and papertowels if you have too...just don't flush them! I have the same problem too!

Love you friend!

I'm glad someone else feels the way I do about maternity clothes needing to COVER the belly. Also, just to spark that fight in ya- a co-worker of my sister's recently left her husband because he did not measure up to Edward- the vampire in Twilight. Don't get me started. She has two daughters who now don't have a daddy at home. But hey! They have Edward (who doesn't really exist).

Connie - What about strapless? Nothing says, "Hey ya'll! I am with child!" like a cute little strapless top that ALSO fits like a leotard. The bizarre twist is that REGULAR clothing styles right now look like maternity and maternity clothes look like leotards.

Jill - YIPEE! I am so glad to find someone using TT. Because I am the only one in our "group" who has a high schooler at this point and I have preached Saxon from the rooftops I am having a little trouble getting insight here. The more I read the more comfortable I am making the change. Oh, I and I am so glad your girl has put down the nail file ;)

Leslie - I have missed you girl! You can chat all day right here if you want to :) I wondered about the Dive CD-Rom but it didn't seem to measure up to TT at the higher math level. We have really liked Saxon but as things get harder it would be so helpful to have someone explaining it better.

Hy-mo-tized is exactly right! The link from your blog about Good Vampire = Oxymoron is really where this starts and ends. Even before we get into the intense sensuality that the book is written around can we just address the whole "vampire" issue? I know Edward is a lovely fellow ... I mean he resists the urge to rip apart his true love and suck her blood.

That's the kind of young man we tell our girls to look for ;)

Tiff - I agree. This little package is wrapped up in a way that deceives the Christian into believing that it is okay to have sinful desires as long as you don't act on them. Painting the "good" vampire picture also allows the reader to think that the wicked and evil roots of the occult are just fairy tales. Scripture says otherwise.

Lydia - did you just pull my string, girl? I am not surprised. At least when we set Christ as the measure, He promises to be our portion as well.

Edward can't do that.

To add ... I knew I should have proofread!

Lydia, I meant to say I am not surprised about the marriage you mentioned. Because we exist in such a depraved state, all of our marriages are at risk! We don't need any measure apart from Christ.

And to continue with your theme... Watching...the snow fall in April.

You know I love the cold, love the snow, but I am a little overwhelmed today to enjoy it.
Thanks for the good talking to this morning. God knows I need you, and His provision is so good.

Just a little push for Teaching Textbooks...we used it this year. We. love. it! It is pricey, but worth it. Have them take the placement test though. Michael did Saxon for a few years, and although in 6th this year he is doing their 7th grade level. highly recommended.

I'm with you on the Dance "no show", we did the same thing and I had to check my watch to see if I had the time wrong--then Seviann sweetly says from the back seat, "Mom, didn't I tell you that they probably won't have dance because it is Spring Break?" No--"Oh, maybe I meant to say it and just thought it."
Well, could you speak in a volume that human ears can hear?

How did I miss this? You gave me a heads up in your comment over my way, but sadly enough I am just now making the visit. Oh yeah, your status report: LOVE.IT.

Cereal for supper? A must-have when our daddy's out of town.

Twilight? Read them all, enjoyed the first couple (sort of a guilty pleasure) and am now profoundly embarassed to admit I read the last one. I am worried about the message it gives young girls. Promoting it at church? Are you kidding me?

I was homeschooled and my mom used Saxon for me and one thing I said when we began homeschooling our little ones, "I'm not going to use Saxon math." Um, you know, just in case you were wondering. :)

I have heard all good things about TT.

I also wanted to say that you are so right about regular vs. maternity clothes right now. What is the deal? You can no longer tell if someone is pregnant or just in style. Silly!

Blessings,
Kimberly

Yeah, the maternity clothes are tough these days. Not sure what the goal is. Congrats on your pregnancy and I like the new look of your blog (or maybe its just been a while since I was here).
