Did she really just say that????

EMMA SAYS: "Momma, is that tissue in your skirt?"

MOMMA SAYS: "What are you talkin' about Emma?"

EMMA SAYS: "Right there Momma... (pointing to the area that is no longer waist but not quite hip) right there where it gets kinda poofy......it sort of looks like you have tissues stuck in your skirt." (what did I ever do to you?)

HANNAH SAYS: "Oh Emma, that is where Mom's shirt is tucked in......Right Mom?" (sweet child, loves me most)

MOM SAYS: "Yeah Hannah, sure, that's it, uh-huh, grumble, mumble, huff, puff, snort."

...While thinking to myself how I would like to blame these inquisitive children for the *poofyness* of my skirt, since they each took up residence there for about 40 weeks of their lives and left me with the aftermath of a poofy belly and the relentless urge to eat things that are sweet. But I resist the urge to place blame and shuffle upstairs to change into my Sunday afternoon uniform (fleece pants that have plenty of "tissue" room) and then set fire to the non-flattering skirt in question (not really) and resign myself to this here fact: I have officially gained weight and even though I am running consistently I must concede to some form of diet in order to take this wretched weight off! I am not looking forward to this because I am a much more pleasant person when I have free reign of the pantry and fillin' my coffee cup with creamer until it turns a lovely shade of beige.

So I bid a fond farewell (for now) to my beloved snacks. I am also training for the 10K that will take place on March 31st. My runs are usually very early in the morning when it is as dark as death and cold. Cold, cold, cold- like frozen hair, chapped skin, and frequent yelps of "whoo-wee it is cold out here" kind of cold!!!

Am I alone in this quest? If you share my woes and feel like encouraging a fellow *poofy* mother then just send the love my way.
Blessings!

You're not alone - although I won't be doing the 10K this year (since I will be about 34 weeks along) but I hope to next year. Even though I have "an excuse" I still need to be better about what I put in my body. I'm sending you some love girl!!

I started back to running this month and it has made such a difference in how I feel. It is frustrating though when the scale doesn't show proof. :)
I am planning on running a 20K in June. It always helps me to have something like that to motivate me.

Giiiirrrl!! I'm sending love your way! I will start running tomorrow morning, ok! I am so sporadic about running, therefore, I am getting quite poofy myself. In fact, Karl's grandmother had the nerve (!) to tell him this at our family Christmas gathering: "Leslie acts like she thinks she is still skinny, but she's really not." I wish I had died right then and there, because then she would have felt bad for saying that. I'm cutting her lots of slack because she's old and all...but, man! Come on!! How do I "act like I think I'm still skinny?" Maybe I'll register for an upcoming local race--that'll make me run!

Unless a 10K is 10 feet, I will definitely not be doing it. I am still carrying around three babies worth of extra weight and I am trying to get it off, too. Good for you doing a 10K! That is awesome! Blessings!

My husband and I made a New Year's resolution to lose weight. We even weigh in each week! I'm no runner (bad knees from ballet injuries), but I need to fit in some type of exercise. It seems to me that I'm either consistent with my quiet time or exercise, but not both!

I so feel your pain! I have been on the exercise kick and am now realizing that I too have to change my eating habits a bit! I am running some, but I really like spinning and various other classes at the Y. I get bored running on a treadmill, so maybe I should take to the open road!

Jenn- this time next year sister!

Wendy - That's nearly a half-marathon, right? You go girl! I also need that motivation. I'll run a couple more races this spring and then I'd like to train for the Army 10-miler in DC this fall. I would do another marathon when the kids are a bit older AND if I had someone to train & run it with. It's hard to do alone :(

Leslie- I have been hit or miss for a while, but I have two or three different groups that I can hook up with (that has taken some time to find). That seems to be key for me. If I'm left on my own I will tend to not go (too dark, too cold, too lazy!) I am laughing about Grandma cause that sounds so familiar to our family! Maybe it's those low-rise jeans you've been sportin':)

You know maybe people think I'm "actin' like I'm skinny" when I eat Chicken-n-Dumplins at Cracker Barrel at 10:00 at night, and then secretly having to unbutton my britches for the ride home? Hmmmm.....

Janis - I hear ya girl. I carried that around too! My Sam was a year old (my third) when I started running for the first time in my life! I counted the distance I ran by the number of mailboxes I could pass without passing out for goodness sakes! I remember being so proud of myself when I told Chris that I ran 1/2 mile without stopping :) It took the weight off when *NOTHING* else did and believe me I have done it all! Good luck :)

Christina- It's wonderful to have a partner in your resolution. Someone to hold you accountable. All I have to do is wink sideways and Chris is headed to the store for some Reeses Pieces! What stinks is that when he makes up his mind to lose weight, he can live on salads and drop 20 pounds in a month. NOT FAIR!

Kelly - I cannot run on the treadmill. As a matter of fact, I went to the gym for the first time in nearly a year last night because it's been so cold. I could only run 3 miles on the treadmill before I wanted to poke out my eyeballs! I like the elliptical and I can tolerate the bike. I think I would really enjoy the spinning class but I never go during the day. Good luck! I do like running on the road because I can make myself easily run for two miles and as long as I run *away* from home then I have to get back, right? There's my 4 mile run :)
