Addicted to Reading...

She loves to read. It borders on obsession, but I'm okay with that.

We ordered a group of books from the library a couple of weeks ago and they came in while we were on vacation, so we were not able to pick them up. When we returned home Emma was crushed....I mean all the way to tears.

Both girls are avid readers. I think Hannah needs a jump start after a summer of mostly *mush* reading.

I would love input on finding a resource for age-appropriate literature for my kids. We have relied on recommendations from school and friends, but we have reached a point where we need something more.

I have a small collection of Lamplighters and I could name a dozen or so books that I would love for them to work through this year, but I seem to remember a website (or something) that was a wonderful resource for solid reading references.

Help?

What a great thing to be addicted too! I'll have to come back to see the suggestions you get for resources. I haven't found any that I love so far.

Your vacation looks like so much fun! I'm glad you had such a good time!

I usually turn to a book called Honey for a Child's Heart by Gladys Hunt. She lists hundreds of books by age/interest/ability, from birth to 14 years. Email me with your kids' ages and I'll type up her list for you.

I'm lovin' the Total Lanugage Plus books...you don't have to do the study guides, but they add so much to the learning that goes on! Go to www.totallanguageplus.com to see all the options. The best part...the study guides are only $20 each and last anywhere from 6-8 weeks.

Send me the list of HOney for a Child's Heart would ya!

We did a tour of our local library and the lady showed Seviann a series of Christian mystery books about a girl named Mandy. She said they were great. Seviann is currently reading "A life of Faith Series" and she is in the Elsie Dinsmore character series. There are several other characters and they are Christian based set back in the 1800's and very relatable to a 10 year old. She LOVES them. If you find a website, please share.

I use Veritas Press Catalogue as a guide. They list books by age under Literature and by Historical time period under the grade that they suggest using them. I've found most of the books we want in the library.

When I was her age, I loved reading the classics: Little Women, The Secret Garden, The Little Princess, Swiss Family Robinson etc.
