You say Elephant...They say Evangelism

This is in our paper today. This is not a joke.

Here's a quote:

"When you're talking about evangelism and bringing people to church, you need something that grabs their attention," Harris said. "An elephant will do that."

Have mercy.

"
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."

Romans 1:16

"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."

2Timothy 4:3

We spent 7 years in a local "seeker" church, trying to make a difference, and unfortunately ultimately realized that it really was more of a circus. Sounds very similar. I am still healing from the hurts suffered at that church and after leaving it (we were seasoned Christians not seekers, who hoped to help grow the church). The underlying issue we couldn't resolve was not necessarily the method, but rather the fact that they feel a "method" or "ploy" is needed to reach people. It is like saying the Holy Spirit can't do the job if we don't set the "fun stage" for Him. It is very sad, because we found that a lot of people were sincerely coming to know the Lord, but were then never discipled and unable to live in the fullness of God's love and power.
Sorry for the novel. Can you tell this is a sensitive spot? Maybe I'll do my own post:-)
Blessings!
